Cuba celebrated  the 62nd anniversary of the proclamation of the socialist character of its Revolution, with a political-cultural event led by President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

At the corner of 23rd and 12th, Havana, the place where the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, made the declaration, Government and State officials, leaders of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), political and mass organizations members, and the population recalled the event that marked the ideological course of the project initiated on the island on January 1, 1959.

Reserve Colonel Armando Martinez recalled when Cuba, during the burial of the victims of the bombing prior to the US-sponsored mercenary invasion of Playa Giron in 1961, ratified the irrevocable character of the revolutionary process.

A few hours later the aggression took place, which was repelled in less than 72 hours, thus preventing the pretext for the direct intervention of US troops.

On the occasion of the celebration of the foundation of the PCC, a group of dedicated militants were recognized in the activity as professional cadres of that organization in the capital, in a period of 10 to 25 uninterrupted years.

After the commemorative event, President Díaz-Canel expressed in his Twitter profile: We remember today at 23 and 12 corner the heroic day when Fidel together with our people proclaimed the socialist character of the Revolution.

A few years later he would say: 90 miles away from that power #Cuba is committing and will continue to commit, let no one doubt it. Here. We continue here,” he stressed.
