Guantnamo.-The Central Bank of Cuba informs the public that, following the update of the country’s currency system, two new denominations are being introduced: 2,000 and 5,000 Cuban pesos. This measure responds to a structural need within the national financial system and seeks to align with market demands.
The issuing entity continues to study the structure that this currency system should have under the current circumstances. The physical implementation of these banknotes will follow a specific schedule defined by banking authorities to ensure orderly distribution.
Starting Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the first 5,000 Cuban peso banknotes will begin circulating in Havana and will be gradually distributed throughout the country.
The same will occur with the 2,000 Cuban peso banknote, and citizens will be informed accordingly. This phased distribution allows for a gradual adaptation of the commercial and banking system in different regions.
