Guantánamo.- Cuba is strengthening its commitment to inclusive tourism and introducing new initiatives designed to welcome all visitors, with special attention to the LGBTQ+ community. Yariel Rojas, Commercial Deputy Director of Cubatur, provided details on this strategy in an interview with Tres60.Travel, explaining that the country has been developing personalized products for months that cater to the interests of this segment, without excluding other types of travelers.
Rojas emphasized that these offerings incorporate added value that enriches the tourist experience and are particularly appealing to the LGBTQ+ community. “The goal is to provide authentic proposals that resonate with the expectations of those seeking more than a traditional destination,” he said.
Cubatur, with 62 years of experience, is the oldest travel agency in Cuba. Rojas, who assumed his position a year ago, noted that the company is undergoing a reinvention process focused on developing offers tailored to diverse segments, from wedding celebrations to global tourism trends. This transformation aims to restore the international positioning that Cuba once held as a leading tourist destination.
The Commercial Deputy Director highlighted the importance of serving these niches to strengthen the country’s image in the global market. In this context, he recognized the growing role of the non-state sector, which has begun providing specialized private tourism services. “This awakening has allowed us to cater to middle- and high-end clients, helping to diversify the offerings and enhance the quality of the experiences,” Rojas explained.
The strategy includes cultural and entertainment options that respond to LGBTQ+ preferences, such as bars, cabarets, drag shows, and cultural products designed to create memorable experiences. Rojas affirmed that Cuba is investing decisively in this type of tourism, convinced of its potential to attract visitors and solidify the country’s image as a welcoming destination.
Addressing any doubts that some travelers may still have about how they will be received on the island, Rojas sent a direct message: “We invite everyone to visit Cuba, walk its streets, feel its energy, and experience its culture. Despite campaigns on social media, the country maintains its essence and continues to commit to inclusive tourism, where visitors can enjoy shows, music, cabarets, and the cultural richness that defines the nation.”
