Guantanamo.- Cuban swimmer Andrea Becali bid farewell to the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore with a time of 57.05 seconds in the 100-meter freestyle.

She led the fifth qualifying heat and finished 38th among 82 competitors. Despite not going under 57 seconds, as on other occasions, she showed a more acceptable performance than in the 200m (2:07.65), the distance that marked her debut there.

Last April, she clocked 56.82 seconds at the Australian Open, where she has been since November 2024 on a scholarship from the international federation, also below her personal best of 56.12 seconds.

Cuba concluded its presence at the world championships with Laurent Estrada’s performance as the most outstanding, even though it did not represent the highlight of her career.

In her long course world debut, she clocked 1:03.72 in the 100m backstroke, her most impressive time this year for the national record holder of 1:03.33.

The Villa Clara native bid farewell this Wednesday with a second-highest lifetime record, covering the 50m in 30.24 seconds. She achieved a time of 30.17 last May at the First Pan American Aquatics Championships in Medellín.

The national record belongs to Becali (30.05), which has remained unbroken since the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador.

Vladimir Hernández, for his part, clocked 4:11.70 in the 400m and completed the 800m in 8:41.26, his best times in events of 4:09.47 and 8:39.40, in that order.
