Guantanamo.- The presentation of the show Magical Journey performed by the National Circus in the Flor Crombet Park of the Jamaica town on Thursday morning marks the beginning of the Cuban Culture Day, on October 10, in the Manuel Tames Municipality, in Guantanamo Province.

Before this presentation of the National Circus, a special tribute is paid to the patriot lawyer Carlos Manuel de Céspedes (1819-1874) who on October 10, 1868 freed his slaves, declared the abolition of slavery and started the wars for the independence of Cuba against the colonial regime of Spain, an event that meant, according to his own words, the first day of freedom and independence of Cuba.

Arismeidis Osoria, who is in charge of programming at the Municipal Directorate of Culture, also highlights that on this first day there will also be a promotion of the work of Alejo Carpentier on the 120th birth anniversary an important figure of the Cuban artistic avant-garde recognized for his notable contribution to the literary heritage in the Spanish language.

She points out that the tribute to the Ballet Folklórico Babul and its director Ernesto Llewellyn De la Hera, and also to the most outstanding members of the brigade of art instructors and to the musicians who have been member of the municipal concert band will also be among the most important moments of this celebration for the Cuban Culture Day.

Virtual visits to the Piedras Zoo, exhibition and commercial fairs, changuí and danzón festivals, presentation of audiovisual materials that have marked the work of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry are part of the program designed on this occasion, which will pay tribute to the formation of a decolonizing conscience in the face of the constant threats of neoliberal globalization.

The Cuban culture day, which will be held from October 10 to the 20th, commemorates two significant moments in the country’s history every year: the beginning of the struggle for Cuban independence and the first-ever performance of the national anthem, a hymn that will be repeated throughout the municipality in defense of the independence legacy.
