Guantanamo.- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel is pursuing a full agenda today in Shenzhen, including visits to historic sites, technology parks, and meetings with Chinese business leaders.
In addition, the head of state will hold talks with senior authorities of both the government and the Communist Party of Guangdong Province.
Díaz-Canel is scheduled to tour the Shenzhen Reform and Opening-Up Exhibition Hall to gain further insight into the Chinese government policy that enabled the country’s economic miracle more than 40 years ago.
As part of his program, he will also visit the Splendid China Folk Culture Village theme park, where the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, planted a tree during his visit in 1995.
The Cuban president arrived in Shenzhen from Beijing, where he met with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, took part in the Victory Day military parade, and co-chaired—alongside Vice President Han Zheng—the ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
During the meeting with Xi, the Chinese leader emphasized that “the building of a community of shared future between China and Cuba has advanced steadily in recent years and has become a symbol of the ironclad friendship between the two countries.”
He underscored that “on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties, we must seize the opportunity to elevate bilateral relations to a new level and bring greater benefits to both peoples.”
Xi reiterated the importance of strengthening the exchange of experiences in governance and party leadership, while maintaining strategic cooperation in multilateral forums such as the Group of 77 and BRICS.
He affirmed that “China will continue, within its means, to support Cuba’s economic and social development and will firmly back its struggle against blockade and interference.”
Díaz-Canel described the Beijing commemoration as highly significant and highlighted China’s historic role in the global victory over fascism.
He reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to the One China principle and expressed gratitude for Beijing’s ongoing support of the island’s development.
The Cuban leader also conveyed his country’s willingness to expand bilateral cooperation, promote high-quality joint construction under the Belt and Road Initiative, and create a favorable environment for Chinese investment.
Furthermore, he expressed Cuba’s full support for the global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, particularly those related to global governance.
Both leaders signed a joint declaration to accelerate the building of a community of shared future between China and Cuba.
In addition, 11 cooperation agreements were announced, covering areas such as the Belt and Road, global security, local agriculture, artificial intelligence, and other sectors.
