Guantanamo.- Guantanamo works with integration and is in better conditions than in previous visits, acknowledged Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), and President of the Republic, when presiding over the extraordinary Plenary Session of the Provincial Committee of the political organization, in the Cuban Upper East.

Accompanied by Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Party, at the meeting he evaluated the results of the province based on the correction of distortions to boost the economy and rectify negative trends in society.

Yoel Pérez García, first secretary of the Party in the province, reported on the actions designed in the territory to address the treatment given to the indications and recommendations of visits made this year to 5 municipalities by the Central Committee of the PCC during 2024.

Pérez García explained that, as a result of the visits, methods and work styles were changed, and today there is a greater link between the provincial and municipal structures, as well as the daily evaluation of vital issues that affect the population.

He pointed out that the main concerns of the people of Guantanamo are transportation, housing construction, water supply, and road repair.

During the debate, the Head of State learned about the banking process, food production, coconut planting, the quality of cocoa, and control actions to combat tax evasion.

The President also learned about good practices in the Maisí Municipality in the preparation of the current coffee harvest.

The young Alberto Marzo, president of the Iraelda Marzo Cooperative Basic Production Unit, explained how, despite the fact that the municipality is decreasing the volume of coffee grain to be collected in the current season, the productive form that he manages will increase production, thanks to the cultural attention to coffee trees, even in the midst of the shortage of inputs and fertilizers.

Among his concerns, he listed the process of banking for payment to coffee pickers and farmers, many of whom are accustomed to have cash.

“It is useless to comply with the payment when the producer must then use work time to go to the bank to receive physical money, because his basic needs cannot be resolved with electronic payment,” he said.

The policy of cadres, the improvement of ideological work, the assurance from the organization to the measures approved in the National Assembly of People’s Power and the correction of distortions to re-boost the economy and rectification of negative tendencies in society were also analyzed on the party agenda.

Morales Ojeda stated that the province, although it does not comply with all the processes, has set priorities to achieve the proposals, a work that is maintained with the coordination of all community forces, and the strengthening of organizations in each neighborhood.
