Guantánamo.- Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, began this Thursday the second round of tours of sites of socioeconomic interest in the province of Guantánamo, as part of a review of compliance with the country’s policy to correct distortions and boost the economy.

Accompanied by Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization, the president visited the Derivatives Base Business Unit belonging to the Argeo Martínez Sugar Agroindustrial Company, in the municipality of Manuel Tames.

The entity has a production capacity of 300 hectoliters of rectified alcohol for use in medicines, raw liquor for rum production, and yeasts and yeast-containing products for livestock feeds utilization.

As part of his tour of sites of socioeconomic interest in two municipalities of Guantánamo, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, visited the Eduardo René Chivás Elementary School in Felicidad de Yateras this Thursday. This school has an enrollment of 270 students from preschool through sixth grade.
The school is part of the second group of advanced education, which includes second and fifth grades, with teaching materials developed by teachers and supported by grassroots organizations and the community.
The Cuban president spoke with the population of Felicidad de Yateras, to whom he explained the country’s efforts to guarantee the stability of the national electricity system and the distribution of basic family food basket products, most of which are imported from abroad.
In this regard, he urged the residents of Yateras to increase food production to achieve the sovereignty the country needs and aspires to. In this mountainous town, President Diaz-Canel enjoyed a performance by El Güajiro y su Changüí, a tradition that identifies the area. The group is led by Celso Fernández Rojas, a special musician, whose art is at the bottom of his hearts, when he is on stage, he wins public sympathy.

Alexander Deslis Hierrezuelo, director of the unit, explained that an investment program is currently underway at the rum plant to enter the foreign currency market.
