Guantanamo.- The invitation to change with the inspiring force of José Martí’s journalism marks this year’s route for the Cuban Press Day, which in Guantánamo begins today Saturday, March 1st until the 15th, when the Timbre program, from the CMKS Radio Station, will dedicate its space to the link between the media and its people.
Announced by Taimí Pérez Fernández, president of the branch of the Cuban Journalists Association (UPEC, in Spanish abbreviation), in the province, and she pointed out that the program of activities nationwide is dedicated to the 133 years of the newspaper Patria, the 130th anniversary of the death in combat of José Martí and the 110th anniversary of the birth of Juan Manuel Márquez, second in command of the Granma yacht expedition, who was assassinated by the Batista’s soldiers after the landing.
According to Pérez Fernández, the day opens this Saturday, March 1st with the Festival of the public press, the people’s press, in direct exchange with the residents of the La Caoba neighborhood, in the capital city, and continues on Monday 3rd, at 10:00 am with the inauguration of the Fidel in Guantánamo exhibition, at the Press House (Martí No. 507 between 2nd and 3rd North).
Artificial intelligence in the field of journalism will be the topic of discussion on Tuesday the 4th, at 10:00 am, at the CMKS radio station, and the following day (Wednesday the 5th) the meeting will be at 9:00 am, at the Combinado Deportivo Norte, to chat with outsanding athletes, while on Thursday the 6th the important workshop Challenges and good practices for the work of journalists, from the Communication Law, will be held at 10:00 am, at the Government headquarters.
On March 7, the eve of the International Women’s Day, women from the journalistic sector will receive their tribute, at 10:00 in the morning, at the Casa de la Prensa, and on the 8th and 9th there will be a Press Crusade between the historic Cajobabo and Vega del Jobo, in the municipality of Imías.
On Monday the 10th, another workshop at 10:00 in the morning at the Government: Capacity building for journalists to manage communication and coverage in exceptional times, with the participation of specialists from the World Food Program in Guantanamo and authorities from the Risk Center and Civil Defense.
The Heritage Center invites journalists on Tuesday the 11th, starting at 9:00 in the morning, to enrich their knowledge of architecture and heritage, on a tour of the city, and the following day (Wednesday the 12th, at 9:30 am) the Meeting-conversation In honor of wisdom will be held at the Casa de la Historia (Pedro A. Pérez between 3 and 4 Norte), dedicated to the designer José Antonio Ocaña and the deceased journalists Magda Rosales and Pablo Soroa.
On Friday the 14th, at 8:00 in the morning, the traditional floral offering to the Most Universal of Cubans, in the José Martí park; At 10:00 am, the cultural event and awards for Cuban Press Day; an hour later, the Casa de la Música La Guantanamera offers journalists its SaxoMan space.
Provincially, Press Day is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the landing of Martí and Gómez at Playita de Cajobabo; to the 30th anniversary of Fidel’s visit to Guantánamo and to the 25th anniversary of Radio Playita. It also celebrates the mark left on journalistic work by Pablo Soroa Fernández and José Antonio Ocaña Suárez, personalities of the Guantanamera press.
