Sites of economic impact in the province of Guantanamo were visited by Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, deputy prime minister, and Félix Duarte Ortega, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, to evaluate the performance of the productive forces and the use of endogenous natural and human resources in favor of territorial development.
The delegation began the tour in the Argeo Martínez sugar mill, the only one in the province, located in the municipality of Manuel Tames, where the conditions are being prepared to start the harvest on January 22, 2024 and guarantee higher levels of production of sugar and derivatives.
Currently, actions are being carried out in order to maintain and repair boilers, clean and change parts, in addition to planting about 900 hectares (ha) of the grass to improve the supply to the industry, dependent last year on the delivery of more than 40 000 (t) of cane from Santiago de Cuba.
Julio Andrés García Pérez, president of the Azcuba Sugar Group; representatives of the Party and the Government in the province, among other leaders and workers accompanied the visitors whose were interested in the working conditions and wage incentives according to the productivity of each worker.
Tapia Fonseca also visited the farm of Jorge Fernández Omaña, in the municipality of El Salvador, a young man of reference in the province due to his contributions in planting and harvesting bananas as part of the development program.
