Guantanamo.- World runner-up Saidel Horta contributed one of Cuba’s two victories today in the first part of a boxing match against the club from the Chinese province of Guizhou.
Days after being crowned champion of the city’s open tournament, Horta (57 kg) defeated Lanhai Xiao 5-0 and lived up to expectations in an equally successful card for his teammate Arianne Imbert (66 kg), who defeated Lexi Qiao 3-2.
The island also relied on Ernesto Comas (63.5 kg) and Dinaybi de las Nieves Borges (50 kg), but both lost 0-5. He lost to Muhetaer Musitafa, and she lost to Yuanyuan Lv.
This Thursday, Horta will return to the mat to face Lanhai Xiao, and Jorge Cuéllar (71 kg), another champion from the previous competition, will also fight for the bronze medal, now called upon to defeat Shapaer Mubaixier.
Cuba’s presence will be completed by Deily Sterling (54 kg), Yoana Rodríguez (75 kg), and Meliza Millares (66 kg), who will face Guiyin Feng, Abiliken Xiaheidan, and Yang Chengyu, respectively.
