The member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party and Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz presided over the government visit to Guantanamo that began in the Baracoa Municipality the first town founded on the island.
At the summary meeting in the Cuban upper east, the head of government in the country verified compliance with the agreements and indications emanating from previous meetings.

The Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning, Alejandro Gil Fernández, pointed out that based on the economic situation facing the nation, it is urgent in the Cuban easternmost province to exploit the potential that exists to incorporate a greater number of products to the national market, while highlighting that progress is being made in the process of banking and pointing out that local governments still need to include in their strategies the contribution of all economic actors, their chains and the participation of the population.
“Actions to achieve a surplus must be projected in the strategies – he said – and made known in each territory so that they can be used as a tool to boost the economy.”
Likewise, Vice Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca pointed out the need to continue transforming efficiency indicators in services and production, and reported that in the coming days it is planned to send two machines to the territory to support irrigation areas and incorporate into the province to collaborative projects that help confront the drought.
Prime Minister leads government visit to Guantánamo
At the meeting – also chaired by Rafael Pérez Fernández, member of the Central Committee of the Party and first secretary in the province of Guantanamo, and attended by around a dozen ministers and vice ministers – participants discussed that problems still persist regarding transportation to the mountains, roads and dredging of the Bay of Baracoa, long-standing demands that the country has on its agenda to help solve.
On the other hand, Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman pointed out that Guantanamo is clear about its work priorities but must continue to outline the preparation of personnel to implement established policies and take advantage of the existing potential on this side of the island.
