San Antonio del Sur is getting ready to celebrate the 45th Cultural Week in the municipality from April 21-23. This event pays tribute to José Martí’s visit to this Guantanamo territory and promotes the local indigenous values and traditional popular culture.

The traditional festival aims to highlight the socio-cultural identity of the territory and strengthen artistic and literary development through the local Amateur Artists Movement at the Popular Councils. The fall in combat of the martyr Emilio Daudinot Pineda on the sands of Playa Girón will also be commemorated.

This year, the event is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of José Martí’s landing on the southern coast of Guantanamo, with an emphasis on elements of national culture that highlight the municipality’s identity.

This event also includes the celebration of the 47th anniversary of the América Labadí Arce Cultural Center, the 16th anniversary of the community initiative “Mi gran Fiesta,” and the 38th anniversary of the opening of the Salabanar Cinema, as well as the legacy of the quartet Momento, founded in 1978.

The cultural event in San Antonio del Sur will extend its program of activities to the five settlements of the coastal municipality.
