Guantánamo – Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic of Cuba, and Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister, are inspecting the damage and recovery progress in areas of the province affected by the rains associated with Tropical Storm Imelda in Guantánamo.
In a meeting with the highest political and government authorities of the eastern province, Díaz-Canel and Marrero Cruz learned that 371 hectares of root crops and beans have been affected in the agricultural sector, while coffee harvesting continues following reports of high ripening peaks and an estimated 130,000 cans of ripe coffee in the fields.
The Cuban president was informed about the prevalence of high rates of arbovirus in the Cuban easternmost region.
The General Directorate of Education is certifying schools ready to begin the school year. Of the 380 reviewed, 13 have structural problems, and alternatives are being sought for students to resume classes.

On the roads, five bridges have been damaged, roads have been undermined, and damage to the Guantánamo-Boquerón railway tracks has been reported, impeding the transport of salt and the movement of the population. The Moa-Baracoa highway and 75 mountain roads are also damaged.
In the province, eight neighborhoods remain without electricity, and alternatives are being sought to restore it.
