Guantánamo – The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, visited Wednesday the Baracoa City, where he is chaired a meeting accompanied by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, and the president of the Provincial Defense Council in Guantánamo, Yoel Pérez García, who presented a report on the effects of Hurricane Oscar in the Upper East of the country and the recovery actions undertaken.

According to the report presented several ministers and members of the Provincial Defense Council of Guantánamo participated in the working meeting to evaluate the recovery from the effects caused by Hurricane Oscar.

▶ Imías is the municipality with the greatest delay in the rehabilitation of water and electricity services.

▶ In all affected Guantanamo municipalities, the delivery of food and the sale of basic necessities has been prioritized.

▶ The cold season of agriculture in Valle de Caujerí is being checked.

▶13 international donations and 11 from the national territory have been received in the province.

▶175 educational facilities affected. Most of them are being recovered. The progress of the process is checked daily.

▶ 634 affected in different organizations. More than 200 have already been recovered.

▶ Preliminary, 12,084 homes were affected in the province.

▶ Housing processing desks are functioning in all the neighborhood where damage occurred.

▶ The entry of resources to the province is confirmed: cement, zinc sheets, electrodes, nails. Work is being done quickly on the local production of materials: sand, lime and bricks.

▶ Roads affected in Guantánamo: 8 of national interest. 7 were recovered. La Máquina – Imías are not recovered yet.

▶ 14 tourism facilities affected. Work is being done on all of them.

▶ It is confirmed that the school year will resume on November 4.

▶ Electricity service restored: Baracoa 77%, Imías 44%, Maisí 72%. Work is being done so that the province can complete the reconnection of all customers this week.

▶ All generators are working.

▶ Local industries in Guantánamo are working on furniture for affected schools and health institutions. Timber and paint are available.

▶ Progress is being made in restoring the communications infrastructure. More than 70% has been recovered so far in the province.

The Cuban president also exchanged views with the residents of the municipality of Imías, with nearly 21 thousand inhabitants, one of the areas most affected by Hurricane Oscar on October 20, 21 and 22, which reported more than 500 mm of rain and flooding.
