Guantánamo – Damián Gómez and Eblis Veranes, young beach volleyball talented players from Guantánamo, have experienced a remarkable rise in their sporting careers. Since their debut in 2024, they have excelled in events such as the NORCECA Opens in Varadero and Punta Cana, ranking themselves as Cuba’s second-best pair.
In 2025, they participated in international competitions, achieving fifth place at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, which has allowed them to gain valuable experience.
Looking ahead to the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in the Dominican Republic, Damián and Eblis emphasize the importance of unity and communication on the court, which has allowed them to forge a strong connection as a team. Despite having practiced other sports, such as wrestling and baseball, their passion for beach volleyball prevails, as they expressed in an interview published in the local newspaper Venceremos.
Their performance at the 2025 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour Finals, where they won a silver medal, reflects their dedication and effort, earning them recognition as the best athletes in their sport in Guantánamo.
The couple continues to bring joy to their country with each competition, expressing their gratitude for the recognition that shows their hard work.
