Recognition of union leaders, as well as voluntary blood donations, are among the main activities carried out by the more than 29,000 workers of the Education, Science, and Sports Union in Guantánamo on occasion of May Day.

Ada Luz Benítez, Provincial Secretary of this union, highlighted that the each labor movement is carrying out productive working day in orchards and farms, cleaning and painting some facilities, as well as decorating with flags and banners alluding to the date, to enthusiastically celebrate the International Workers’ Day.

Guantanamo teachers, accompanied by support staff and students, also carried out various activities such as discussions with literacy teachers and former union leaders, special morning sessions, classroom sanitation, and other initiatives to demonstrate their commitment to the continuity of the Cuban socialist system.

As is traditional, starting this April 1st, various productive, political, and recreational initiatives were launched in Guantanamo’s more than 800 educational institutions for the celebrations of May Day.
