Guantanamo.- BioCubaCafé S.A. has successfully installed three electric generator sets at coffee-pulping facilities located in Vertientes, Cantillo, and Santa Martha settlements. The initiative is aimed at mitigating the spoilage and fermentation of coffee beans harvested in Maisí Municipality, a challenge exacerbated by frequent power outages in Guantánamo Province.

The generators, operating at a frequency of 60 hertz—consistent with the Cuban power grid—generate 19 kilowatts of power while consuming between 2 and 4 liters of diesel per hour. Luca Rosmino, the technician responsible for the energy transformation at BioCubaCafé S.A., noted that this joint venture with the Italian company Lavazza is the first of its kind within the Cuban Agroforestry System.

According to a statement on the company’s official Facebook page, the generator sets are fitted with transformers that tailor the voltage to meet the specific needs of each facility. This capability facilitates the prompt processing of coffee beans at the centers, thereby preserving the quality of the coffee.

With these generators now operational in Maisí, the largest coffee-producing area in Guantánamo, BioCubaCafé S.A. aims to enhance the efficiency of the coffee harvest and minimize bean loss through machinery that aligns with the national electrical grid.

The three generator sets installed in this eastern region are part of a larger shipment of 14 units intended for an equal number of coffee-pulping facilities throughout various municipalities in southeastern Cuba. BioCubaCafé S.A. is committed to producing and marketing high-quality organic coffee while prioritizing sustainability and local development in eastern Cuba.
