The Cuban Elisbet Gámez won a title and a silver medal at the Lyon 2023 International Swimming Meeting, in France, and she was recognized as the best swimmer and the third top event competing.
In the 25 m pool, Elisbet triumphed this Sunday in the 200 meter freestyle with an excellent time of 1:57.52 minutes, very close to her national record of 1:57.11 set in Melbourne in December 2022.
«I felt good all the time. “I am doubly happy because I achieved the national record without being in shape, a sign that things are going well in training,” she told JIT.
Previously, the outstanding athlete participated in the 100 meters free style and obtained the silver medal with a time of 55.54 seconds, despite not swimming at full intensity.
«They did not clarify to me that it was a single heat and I reserved myself thinking that I could hit it harder in the competition for the medals. She was also going to swim the 200, my best event, but I am aware that I could give more, I felt it, and that is important,” commented the Baracoa native girl.
Cuba’s main swimmer opened her presence in Lyon, this Saturday, with a silver medal in the 50m- freestyle with 25.80 seconds. In prelims she had clocked 25.67 to set her personal best and the national record 25.82.
Elisabet, which represents the international center of World Aquatics based in the port town of Antibes, in Nice, France will compete again on December 16, 17 and 18.
In January, she will do a high altitude base in Font-Romeu, a sporty and sunny mountain resort at 1,800 meters of altitude in the middle of the forests, her French Coach Fred Vergnoux told to press, who worked for more than one year decade in Spain. Among her pupils was Mireia Belmonte, a four-time Olympic medalist, as well as the world and European award-winner.
