Guantánamo.- The President of Cuba’s National People’s Power Assembly (ANPP), Esteban Lazo, is participating in the 4th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.

The event, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in close collaboration with the United Nations, is taking place in Geneva and will conclude on July 31.

According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this is the first time that the Cuban official “attends in person this international event, held every five years and first established in 2000, on the eve of the UN Millennium Summit, as a unique forum for high-level participation and dialogue among the world’s parliamentary authorities.”

During the conference, Lazo will participate in the general debate and panels. He will also hold bilateral meetings with parliamentary leaders from other nations.

The Cuban delegation also includes Rodolfo Benitez, ambassador and UN representative in Geneva; Marta Hernandez, coordinator of the ANPP’s permanent working missions; and Jesus Rafael Mora, director of international relations for the legislative branch.
