Guantánamo – “The municipal development strategies should become a true management tool that allows for greater results in the sustainable comprehensive development of the territories,” stated Esteban Lazo Hernández, member of the Political Bureau of the Party’s Central Committee, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State, in the summary of the parliamentary visit to Guantánamo.
“I can’t imagine a municipality lacking clear ways to reduce expenses and increase revenues as a way to run a surplus and become autonomous,” said Lazo Hernández when analyzing the implementation of the Government-to-Government Program to correct distortions and boost the economy, as well as the impacts of the policies approved in the country.
Accompanied by Homero Acosta, secretary of the Assembly and the Council of State, and the highest government and party authorities of the province, he assessed the results of the visit by the Permanent Commissions of the Cuban Parliament.
The various commissions highlighted the province’s progress in addressing the main problems facing the population, with an emphasis on food production, reducing the budget deficit and macroeconomic stabilization, and increasing volume of exportable products.
Along with the government program, other topics addressed included the functioning of the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power and the attention to the population’s concerns, derived from the first accountability process of the delegates to their constituents in the current 18th term, as well as attention to social prevention work and social policies.
On these topics, the President of the National Assembly emphasized “engagement and communication with the population to achieve better results. Let the mass of people to participate in the transformations, in the neighborhoods, People’s Councils, and municipalities.”
