With the presence of Teresa Amarelle Boué, general secretary of the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC) and Yoel Pérez García, first secretary of the Communist Party in Guantanamo, the Retoños de Verde Olivo children’s house, pertaining to the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), opened with the aim of benefiting working mothers of the military institution.

Located in the old Officers’ Club in this city, the new institution has the capacity for 50 children who will be under the care of educators and pedagogical assistants, in charge of planning and organizing activities according to the programs and methodological guidelines of the school stage.

In this variant of early childhood educational care, programming is put into practice equal to that of day care centers, since the little children receive knowledge of the social and natural world, their mother tongue, basic notions of Mathematics and Artistic Education, among others.

Amarelle Boué highlighted the importance of this alternative, which favors the full women´s integration into society, and in this case specifically to those in the service of FAR.

The members of the delegation, also made up of Colonel Luis Prieto Lazo, Head of the Military Region, exchanged with children, mothers and workers during the tour of the classrooms, play areas, kitchen-dining room and a small plot where vegetables are grown.

Lieutenant Colonel Daimara Torres Negret, Staff Officer of the Military Region, thanked FAR in the territory for its efforts in redesigning the premises – previously a store selling uniforms for officers – which has now become a renovated space to educate the little ones and benefit working mothers and students.

With the opening of the Retoños de Verde Olivo children’s house, the first of its kind in the Armed Forces in Guantanamo, this territory has 27 similar institutions and is included among the provinces of Cuba that consolidated this experience, after the approval of Resolution 58/ 2021 of the Ministry of Education, which regulates its opening and operation.
