Guantanamo.- Creativity in Cuba is not only a cultural resource but also an economic asset and a tool for sovereignty. At the forefront of the battle for efficiency and import substitution is the Association of Innovators and Rationalizers (ANIR, in Spanish abbreviation) in Guantánamo, which is celebrating five decades during which its membership manages its effort, ingenuity and innovation toward concrete solutions.
According to Yanisleidis Acosta, the ANIR’s general director, “the innovations implemented during 2025 saved the country more than 72 million pesos through import substitution, the manufacture of spare parts, and the extension of the useful life of factory and industrial equipment, all aimed at supporting the national economy.
Even so, the results were not very good. Of the 92 entities with innovative activity in the province, 73 did not meet the targets. Only 19 recognize the work of their innovators, despite their contributions and the savings they generate for the country in the current situation.
However, there were other incentives: 58 innovators were awarded with the 8 de Octubre Condition, and another 50 with the Trinchera de Acero award.”
