Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang affirmed that signing the Geneva Agreement on the cessation of war in Vietnam inspired and encouraged national liberation movements in the five continents.The event also paved the way for the collapse of old colonialism worldwide, the deputy head of Government stressed on Thursday at a commemorative event to mark the 70th anniversary of the event on July 21, 1954.
Luu Quang stressed that with that pact, Vietnam’s fundamental rights were recognized in a validated international treaty for the first time in history and respected by the countries and parties participating in the Geneva Conference.
With the Geneva Accord, he stressed, Vietnam’s spirit, temperament, and diplomatic identity in the Ho Chi Minh era were brilliantly demonstrated, and the message of a nation that loves peace, values justice, and has a strong will to protect its independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity was firmly reaffirmed.
The victory at the Geneva Conference was first and foremost a response to the wise revolutionary guidance of the Communist Party under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh, the deputy prime minister said and added that it was also a crystallization of the resilient, invincible, and persevering fighting spirit of the People’s Army and the Vietnamese people.
In another part of his speech, Luu Quang highlighted the solidarity, support, and valuable assistance from Laos, Cambodia, China, the Soviet Union, and other socialist countries and peace-loving peoples of the world, including France.
