The Guantanamo judoka Idelannis Gómez Feria won the gold medal at the XIX Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023, when she beat the Puerto Rican María Pérez Díaz by ippon in the 70 kg final, at the Sports Center of Contact.
Gómez had a mind-blowing finale, in which she had to take the extra to achieve her goal, since the final game pitted the veteran world runner-up.
For the title in the three Pan American Games trials, the Guantanamo judoka also defeated the Argentine Agustina Delveccio by ippon in the quarterfinals, and the Ecuadorian Celinda Corozo with the same verdict in the semifinals.
