The year 2023 is the fifth of the implementation of the housing policy in Cuba and in Guantanamo the program advances, regardless of limitations  of construction material and the non-arrival or late entry of resources such as roofs, electrical cables and pipe system, essential for the completion of houses by the state, subsidies and own effort.

It was reported in the Provincial Council of the Government of People’s Power, where the participants could known that at the end of the first quarter, 306 homes were completed in the province, out of 280 planned for the stage, a result that is still insufficient for the housing needs of the population, but that reflects how much progress can be made despite the lack of supplies, and if the potentialities of the municipalities for the production of local construction materials are taken advantage of.

This is a high-impact program in increasing the level and quality of life of the Guantanamo people, hence the participants in the meeting spoke out for consolidating their momentum in the ten municipalities of this eastern territory.

After assessing objective and subjective causes that persist in the non-completion of houses by different means, the Governor of Guantanamo Emilio Matos Mosqueda pointed out that, “although the deficit of cement, steel and finishing materials have a negative impact, the slow execution is also present of state housing and the lack of organization and demand on the issue of subsidies. This requires making punctual and constant analyzes to reverse this situation and move forward as much as possible”.

In the Governing Council, compliance with the indicators of the economy and the budget, employment policy, the progress of local and cultural development projects were also discussed, with emphasis on attention to heritage, the behavior of the construction materials industry and mini-industries, the computerization strategy in Guantanamo and the disaster reduction plan in the province.
