The economy in the Guantanamo Province is based, fundamentally, on agricultural and forestry production. The main products of the territory are coffee, salt, sugar, cocoa, coconut, the latter two important exportable items and currently there are two export centers, the Baracoa Agroforestry Enterprise and the Asdrúbal López Coffee Processing Plant
Topics that focus the attention of the provincial government during 2024 are the quality of services to the population, housing construction, actions to reduce inflation and high prices, local production of construction materials, the improvement of administration structures, and the materialization of food sovereignty.
Attention to the population, monitoring the process of accountability of the Delegate to his voters, the State’s Tarea Vida (Task Life) Plan, disaster risk studies, cultural, sports, public health programs, production of medicines, tourism, Social communication, vulnerable neighborhoods, computerization of society, the Business System, Commerce and Gastronomy and Food Sovereignty and Nutritional Education focus the work of the Government in the province.
The transition towards a Guantanamo with prosperous and sustainable development is supported by a Government Management System, based on Science and Innovation, according to the particularities of the territory, in tune with the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals until 2030.
The necessary science-government and socio-productive sector articulation is encouraged to satisfy territorial demands, based on the implementation of the provincial development strategy.
Territorial governance promotes the development of the province from project management, in which the highest priorities are food production and marketing, sustainable socio-cultural and community development, training of scientific, technological and innovation capabilities, computerization and digital transformation, local production of construction materials and nature, culture and tourism, history and the substitution of imports and increase in exports.
Today in Guantanamo, in its cities and fields, the work of the Revolution is in every corner of its geography as a sample of the equity and social justice achieved since the January 1st, 1959.
There are many challenges, but the people of Guantanamo know that they aspire towards territorial development and increasing the quality of life of those who live in this unique and heroic land. Nothing will prevent the progress of our territory, with the strength and pride of its men and women committed to make a better future day by day.
