Guantanamo.- Virginia Orihuela Bigñotte, a singer-songwriter from Guantánamo who is well-known as Virginia Guantanamera, has been selected to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Fox Music USA Latin Awards.
The artist, a three-time Cubadisco Award winner and a member of the Latin Recording Academy, will receive the award during the 16th annual awards ceremony, which will be held in Texas, United States.
Born in Guantánamo and currently residing in the Canary Islands, Virginia Guantanamera has enjoyed a career spanning more than 40 years. She has received seven Cubadisco nominations, winning the award in 2019, 2021, and 2022. She has also been nominated for a Latin Grammy in the Tropical Varied Music category.
Virginia Guantanamera shared the nomination with five other Cuban artists: Claudio Rodríguez, in the Romantic Pop category; Liz Castillo Prieto, nominated for Best Romantic Salsa Singer and Best Duet; Eviel Morales, known as “Viely777,” in the Latin Pop and Afrobeat categories; Mario Benedí, nominated for Best Christian Performance; and Alwin Damián, in the Best Romantic Ballad category.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in November 2026 in the United States.
