Guantánamo.- About 50 participants of the XXXV Edition of the Guantánamo Baracoa Theater Crusade began their cultural journey to the mountains and more intricate areas of the Cuban easternmost province, on occasion of the celebration of the 172nd birth anniversary of the National Hero, José Martí, on January 28th.

Emilio Vizcaíno, director of the Guiñol theater group and the Crusade, highlighted the relevance of this initiative for the spiritual enrichment of the community and the right of children to comprehensive development, where art has a fundamental role in their lives.

He emphasized that artists have a cultural and political responsibility in times of cultural colonization, where they must overcome superficiality and inaction and reaffirm their creativity in the face of adversity.

Before leaving as usual from the José Martí Park in the capital city, the Crusade was recognized by the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), the Government, the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Education.

Yoel Pérez García, first secretary of the PCC, congratulated the members of the Crusade for their years of work in the communities, where they pay tribute to José Martí in this loving project for children and young people.

He stressed that this work is like a needle and a thread so fine that it sews with joy and love the hearts that are still broken and encouraged them to continue, like Quixotes, to cross mountains with the support of everyone.

In the activity were also honored those who dedicated 30 years to the project, such as Liuba Duporté Guilarte and Emilio Vizcaíno, as well as Eldys Cuba (31 years), Yamisela Martínez (32 years old), Ury Rodríguez and Maribel López Carcasés (34 years) and Gerturdis Campos Bernal, the only active founder in these 35 years.

The award was extended to the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) and the Revolutionary Armed Forces for their collaboration.

Albis López Ramírez, first secretary of the Party in the municipality of Guantánamo, and Yoelvis Labañino, provincial director of Culture, also went to see off the troupe

Likewise, representatives of political and mass organizations, the Minint and local artists, attended the cultural event, performed by students from the Antonia Luisa Cabal Professional Music School, the Colmenita Guantánamo and the Danza Fragmentada Company.

Until March 2, the Guantanamo- Baracoa Theater Crusade will tour hard-to-reach communities in six municipalities and will offer 180 performances as well as artistic workshops, conferences, master classes and meetings between young students and theater leaders to bring culture to those who are furthest from these recreational options.
