Guantánamo.- Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Communist Party in Guantánamo Province, honored a group of men and women for their outstanding work within the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDRs), the country’s largest and most dynamic mass organization.
On September 28, the CDRs will mark the 66th anniversary of their founding by the late Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
In recognition of their long and fruitful contributions to strengthening and developing the CDR movement in neighborhoods and communities, several members were awarded the September 28 Distinction, the organization’s highest honor.
Others received the medal For the Defense of the Homeland and the Unity of the Neighborhood. The honorees said that receiving such a distinction represented an even greater commitment to consolidating grassroots structures, encouraging youth participation, increasing blood donations, and combating crime and illegal activities.
Meanwhile, Maiteé Duvergel Hernández, representing CDR members from the municipality of El Salvador, told the press that receiving the highest honor granted by the National Coordination of the CDRs was an expression of the continuity of the ideas of historic leader Fidel Castro, founder of the important organization.
Pedro Velázquez Revé, from Caimanera—the First Anti-Imperialist Trench of Cuba—and also a recipient of the distinction, stated that the CDR movement is a powerful force of the Revolution, rooted in the neighborhoods.
He added that, given the complex situation facing the nation, residents have a responsibility to help revitalize community vigilance and support municipal, provincial, and national authorities in implementing the socioeconomic transformations aimed at achieving a more prosperous Cuba.
