Guantánamo. – International Chess Master Lennis Martínez Ramírez, from Guantánamo, won first prizein the IX Open Internacional CMI de Sevilla, Memorial D. Leonardo García Junco, held this weekend.
The tournament was played using a Swiss system over 9 rounds with a playing time of 15 minutes for each player, plus 3 bonus seconds for each move, averaging games of about 40 minutes.
Lennis finished with an undefeated record of 9/9, winning the title among 89 chess players.
Behind the Guantánamo native were Spanish FIDE Masters Carlos Bernabéu and Cristian Silva with 7.5 and 7 points respectively, while Argentine Grandmaster Daniel Cámpora ended fourth place with 6.5 points.
