Guantánamo.- The amount of water stored in reservoirs administered by the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH) in the province of Guantánamo amounts approximately 40 million cubic meters since the start of the rains more than 72 hours ago.
To a greater or lesser degree, the six reservoirs have increased their storage volumes, bringing the area to 35 percent of their capacity.
One of the most benefited sources is the Faustino Pérez Dam, which has reached 98.8 percent of its capacity, with an increase of approximately 11 million liters (about 1000 cfs). This is similar to the increase in the La Yaya Reservoir, which reached 15 percent of its capacity. The Jaibo Reservoir increased by approximately 8 million liters and reached 37 percent of its capacity.
In the municipality of San Antonio del Sur, Los Asientos is at full capacity, while Pozo Azul is at 52 percent.
Heavy rainfall continues in most municipalities of Guantanamo. The rains have also been intense in the eastern municipalities with accumulations of up to 150 mm (about 6 inches) were recorded in the last 24 hours, and increased runoff from rivers and streams.
