Guantánamo – Guantanamo environmentalists are committed to adequate management and control of the use of natural resources and priority ecosystems in the territory, based on compliance with the policies, programs and strategy implemented for the period 2020-2025.

The Guantánamo Bay Decontamination Program stands out in this task with the task of monitoring, evaluating and advising entities to reduce emissions of harmful substances, for the benefit of human health and the environment.

Also noteworthy are the inspections carried out in areas such as the Maisí-Yumurí Protected Natural Landscape, the Yara Majayara Outstanding Natural Element and Boca de Miel, as part of the government plan for the prevention and confrontation of illegalities that affect natural resources.

In these and other surveillance and protection actions, discussions with community residents that take place mainly in the circuits and protected areas, the Forest Ranger Corps, the Department of Flora and Wildlife, belonging to Agriculture, among other actors, together with CITMA, are involved.

Also noteworthy is the work in the implementation of adaptation measures based on ecosystems such as organic food production, the ecological restoration of forest environments and the strengthening of livelihoods in the Jaguaní River sub-basin, in the Baracoa Municipality.

Environmental specialists in the province work on programs for protected areas, forests, as well as mountain and coastal ecosystems, watersheds and the decontamination of Guantanamo Bay, in addition to the government plan to combat illegal activities that damage the environment.
