Guantánamo.- The Guantanamo men’s team finished fifth in the eighth edition of the National Boxing Series, which was held at the Rafael Fortún Chacón boxing hall in the city of Camagüey.
The Guaso boxers finished fifth scoring 251 points, in a competition in which Holguín won the title with 287 points and was undefeated, followed by Camagüey (271) and Cienfuegos (253). The boxers from Matanzas were off the podium, placed in the fourth position were (226) and in sixth and seventh place were Pinar del Río (198), and Sancti Spíritus (146).
In the individual distinctions, the performance of Guantanamo Keylor García in the 75 kg stood out as the most technical and the Olympic champion Erislandy Álvarez de Cienfuegos in the 63.5 kg as the most combative. The official retirement of Santiago native Yunier Fábregas 51 kg was also an emotional moment.
Finally, Rolando Acebal, technical head of Cuban boxing said, “This National Series will allow us to renew the registration of the national team and identify athletes with immediate prospects that we will follow in their provinces.”
