Guantánamo.- The progress of the contracting process for agricultural production and the main economic indicators were focused on the analysis of the Provincial Council of the Government of the People’s Power of Guantánamo, corresponding to the month of November.
Chaired by Alis Azahares Torreblanca, Governor, the Council addressed the remaining deficiencies in the municipalities to comply with the contracting process for 2025 with land owners, regarding milk, meat and other agricultural products; non-payment to producers, the registration of productive forms in the commercial registry and the delays in the current cold sowing season.
Guantánamo has more than 19 thousand land owners; of this number, 15,437 are subject to contracting and, to date, a little more than 3,320 have had their productions contracted, only 25 percent of what is needed to complete this process.
The Governor demanded that this situation be reversed immediately “if we want to have the guarantee of the agricultural production necessary to feed the people,” she said.
In the analysis, with the participation of municipal delegates of agriculture and directors of agricultural companies, the Governor reiterated the need to correct the remaining deficiencies in the exercise of Control over the Possession, Use and Illegality of the Land, and the Investigation of the Livestock.
She also called to verify the operation of the legal groups, the non-payment to producers (amounting to more than five million pesos) and the cold sowing season, which is only fulfilled at 71 percent.
The main economic indicators of the province were also widely discussed, with over-fulfillment of the income granted, total collection and sales, but non-compliance with the property tax, current expenses, and the collection of fines. Today, there are 11 companies with losses.
The Provincial Council also evaluated the progress of the budget execution, the plan of activities to celebrate the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution and the preparations for the beginning of the sugar harvest and the production of molasses.
