Guantánamo.- There were initially two people injured in the derailment of the Guantánamo-Havana train, which occurred on a section of track near the Bellamar Caves highway in the city of Matanzas.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m., damaging approximately 200 meters of railway

The impact derailed seven cars, four of them separated from the rest of the train.

Rafael Roldán Simón, a crew member with 33 years of experience, says the driver noticed the poor condition of the track and maneuvered emergency stop, according to the procedures to follow in these cases.

Fortunately, he explains, the cars did not overturn, which prevented further injuries.

Regarding the injured, it was learned that they are a passenger and two train attendants, two with minor injuries, and the crew member with blood pressure imbalance.

The Faustino Pérez Hospital has so far received three patients with minor injuries as a result of the derailment of the Guantánamo-Havana train, on the section of track near the Bellamar Caves highway.

According to Gretel Robaina Rodríguez, Deputy Director of Assistance, none of the injured are currently in danger of dying, and they are recovering well. Two more patients in similar condition are expected to arrive.

The hospital deployed an emergency team with about twenty specialists and nurses upon hearing the news of the accident.
