To commemorate the 130th anniversary of the resumption of the struggle for independence in the Cuban nation and to promote knowledge of the national historiography, the provincial branch of the Association of Cuban Historians (UNHIC, in Spanish abbreviation), in Guantánamo, announces the 38th Municipal Workshop “De La Confianza a San Pedro”, on February 21st at the House of History “Manuel González García”, located in the Guantanamo City.

In the context of the 46th Guantanamo Culture Week, the UNHIC headquarters will host historians, professors, journalists and other professionals who will present around twenty research work related to local culture and history, as well as sociopolitical issues that occurred during the process of consolidation of Cuban nation.

The academic meeting, held every year to mark the beginning of the Cuban Independence War on February 24, 1895, includes pre-event conferences on the 20th, at the University of Guantánamo, the “José Maceo Grajales” Vocational Complex, and at the Mausoleum of La Confianza, a historic site that treasures the moments of the uprising of the Guantanamo patriots, led by General Pedro Agustín Pérez.

The conferences and panels during the days of the Municipal Workshop “From La Confianza to San Pedro” will analyze topics related to the José Martí’s writings in his celebrated Diario de campaña (Campaign Diary) during his journey through the easternmost territory of Cuba; the teaching of history, as well as Fidel Castro’s reflection on the Cuban independence process
