Guantanamo.- In order to control the sale of medicines and to reach a greater number of patients, a new system for distribution is being implemented in Guantanamo, according to a schedule based on the medical offices associated with each pharmacy.

Raciel Prieto Maceo, General Director of the Pharmacy and Opticial Company in the province, said that in order to make a purchase, patients must present their identity card and the prescriptions must include the number of the doctor office to which they belong or the origin of the prescription, whether it is an outpatient clinic or a medical emergency room.

Emergency drugs needed, such as anti-inflammatories and eye drops, are sold with priority according to the needs of the patients. Prescriptions are generally valid for 30 days, although antibiotic prescriptions are only valid for seven days and those issued in medical emergency rooms must be used within 24 hours.

Each clinic has registered the inhabitants of its community, which allows for establishing priorities according to the type of medication, the characteristics of the patients, among other aspects.
