Guantanamo.- The Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture in the Guantanamo Province is aimed at sowing nearly 1,000 hectares of rice this year. The Enrique Campos Caballero Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS, in Spanish abbreviation), based in the community of La Jabilla, in the municipality of Guantánamo, is making a great effort to meet the goal.

This renowned CCS will plant 240 hectares of the grain, divided into 120 hectares in the first stage, with the largest planting volume between February and March; and a second stage, with a similar area, for the next winter season, during the high peak season on September and October.

Heriberto Martín Campos, president of the cooperative, assures that the plantings will be, by far, the largest in the history of the Enrique Campos Cooperative, which last year, on 60 hectares, produced 160 tons of the vital food.

The 240 hectares planned for 2026 should quadruple that harvest, or perhaps yield even more, thanks to the availability of permanent water for the fields, the greater experience of the producers, and improved land preparation due to fuel subsidies.

Heriberto explains that in the immediate future, the Enrique Campos Caballero Credit and Services Cooperative can plant approximately 400 hectares per year, with the addition of new producers and the incorporation of land currently slated for clearing.
