Guantanamo triple jumper Lázaro Martínez improved his mark by six centimeters in the current winter season, by finishing fifth, at the Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais Rally, in the French city of Liévin.

In the athletic meeting, in the gold category for the World Athletics Indoor Tour, Martínez added only two valid jumps, in his second and fourth attempts, 16.87 meters and 15.60, in that order.

This is his third competition of the year, in the first ones he had achieved 16.81 (Mitin de L’Eure) and 16.48 (Orlen Copernicus Cup).

Hugues Fabrice Zango, from Burkina Faso, added his second win of the campaign, with a jump of 17.21. Yasser Triki (ALG) took second place, with 17.18, and local Jean-Marc Pontvianne, third with 17.13.

Another stop on the World Athletics Indoor Tour was held in the US, in New York City, the Millrose Games. At the New York event, Bahamian Devynne Charlton set a world record in the 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 7.67 seconds. The previous one, of 7.68, was in power of the Swede Susanna Kallur, since 2008.
