Guantanamo.- Guantánamo squad won first place in the youth boxing tournament of the 60th National School Games, which took place from July 8 to 13 in the Rafael Castiello multipurpose room, in the Guantanamo City.

The Guantanamo boxers scored 46.2 points and were followed on the top collective podium by Havana (42.7 points) and Camagüey (38.3 points).

Of the boxers from the Cuban Upper East, the three finalists won the gold medal: Dionis Fabré (51 kg), Yojandler Fuentes (57 kg) and Javier Raulin (92 kg), the first makes up the grass-root team and the last two from the team national.

“It is great progress. In 2022 we placed fourth in the youth competition – in 2023 it was not held – and now, despite the limitations in the training, the crown was achieved, showing that we maintain the tradition in boxing,” said Ramón Beltràn Domínguez, provincial boxing methodologist.

He assured, “It has been 15 years since the Playa Girón National Tournament was held in Guantánamo and now it coincides that its development was followed by these lower category events; I hope that we will be the venue again soon, giving the Guantanamo people the opportunity to enjoy boxing events, both for the athletes of the national team and for the grass-root, who are the future,”

With this result, Guantánamo achieved a great performance in the boxing competition of National School Games, since in the school category, also held in the Rafael Castiello room, but a week before, it finished second.

Most technical athlete: Daniel Cajigal, from Sancti Spíritus.

Most combative athlete: Yojandler Fuentes, from Guantánamo.

Best fight: Ángel Soler, from Havana, VS Celed Rodríguez, from Ciego de Ávila.

Best referee: Wilber Inocente, from Camagüey.

Best coach: Oscar Chivás, from Guantánamo
