Cuba benefits from Minag-FAO project machinery

Guantanamo.- The Provincial Agriculture Delegation in Guantánamo is offering 8,451 hectares of land distributed among the 10 municipalities of Cuba’s eastern region. The land is suitable for the production of various crops, including rice, coffee, cocoa and sugarcane, as well as for raising livestock, small animals and pigs.

According to Alvernis Veranes Favier, the province’s top agricultural official, the offers are part of the implementation of Cuba’s economic and social transformations.

The seventh thematic area, aimed at promoting agricultural recovery, calls in paragraph 58 for “modifying the management and use of land by all economic actors.”

Under the provisions of paragraph 58, real usufruct rights over land may be granted to state, private and mixed legal entities, as well as to individuals who apply for them. The right may be granted for an indefinite period and for the amount of land specified in the submitted project.

The land may be used for agricultural, forestry and tobacco production, as well as for ecotourism and agrotourism development projects.
