Guantanamo.- Mariana Grajales Square was adorned for the occasion as it hosted more than twenty Guantánamo workers who were awarded this Saturday as part of the May Day celebrations.
During the ceremony, the Lázaro Peña Order, First Class, was awarded to Dignora Plutin Sánchez, from the Agricultural, Forestry, and Tobacco Workers Union. The Third Class award was given to a dozen members of the Culture and Education, Science, and Sports sectors for their dedication, commitment, and outstanding work achievements that distinguish them within their respective organizations.
The provincial radio station CMKS proudly received the news that two of its employees had been awarded this high distinction: journalists Martha Reyes Noa and Ventura Figueras Lores, both with long and distinguished careers at the radio station, and union leaders with significant achievements in their work, in addition to their prominent political and social careers.
At the ceremony, some fifteen outstanding workers from the Culture, Sugar Industry, Education, Science and Sports, Health, and Public Administration unions were also honored, as well as the staff of the Mountain Development Center and the 14 de Junio Special Education School, all receiving the Jesús Menéndez Medal.
During the ceremony, the Association of Innovators and Rationalizers recognized four of its members with a copy of the Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz’s innovator card, in recognition of their creative talent in promoting import substitution and the economic and social impact of their work.
Igmara Reyes Márquez, a member of the CTC’s provincial secretariat in Guantánamo, congratulated the workers awarded and urged them to continue contributing and to remain an example of love and commitment in their work.
Among those honored were Yoel Pérez García, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province, Governor Alis Azahares Torreblanca, along with union leaders and representatives of political and mass organizations in Cuba’s easternmost province.
The ceremony honoring outstanding workers is among the activities of the labor movement leading up to International Workers’ Day on May 1st, an event for which Guantánamo is preparing to celebrate a massive proletarian holiday.
