Guantanamo performing arts teacher received the Hermanos Camejo and Pepe Carril Honorary AwardDuring the fifteenth edition of the International Puppetry Festitaller (Festitim) in Matanzas province, actress, theater director and puppeteer Maribel Lopez Carcases received the “Hermanos Camejo and Pepe Carril Honorary Distinction”, conferred by the Cuban Center of the International Puppetry Union (Unima), together with the organizing committee of the event and the House of Scenic Memory of the aforementioned territory.

The awarding of this distinction, which reveres personalities of children’s and puppet theater, whether born on the island or not, with a professional work that has contributed to the development, promotion and dignification of the puppetry art, took place at the Jose White Concert Hall, by the hands of the National Theater Award 2020 Ruben Dario Salazar, director of Teatro de las Estaciones group, from Matanzas.

The “Hermanos Camejo and Pepe Carril Honorary Distinction” recognizes the work of Maribel Lopez as leader of the Guiñol Guantanamo Theater, a group in which she also served as actress and artistic director, and also praises her excellent work in animation, in the training of new puppeteers and in assuming various responsibilities in the Unima and the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).

On the other hand, the program of the 15th International Puppet Festival, which takes place in the province of Matanzas from May 14th  to 19th  with the participation of casts from Cuba, Peru, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Canada, also included the presentation of the play: “L’ tan qui pasé” by La Barca, led by the creator Ury Rodriguez Urgelles from the province of Guantanamo.
