Guantánamo.- The Guantánamo Provincial Center for Books and Literature announced on its Facebook page the sad news of the passing of poetess Sobidelia Iglesias Alberny, a member of the Nattional Union of Writers and Artists (UNEAC) in the province.
She died on Monday, March 23, at the age of 78. Among Sobidelia Iglesias’s literary works stand out the books “El Sol como talud” (The Sun as a Slope), 2007, and “Piel Adentro” (Skin Within) 2011, both published by the local publishing house “El Mar y la Montaña” (The Sea and the Mountain).
Her work is also included in the anthologies “Poetisas guantánmeras” (Guantánamo Women Poets), “Y a veces paso hilvanándome la fe” (And Sometimes I Spend My Time Weaving My Faith), and “Navegas, Isla de oro” (You Sail, Island of Gold), published by Gente Nueva Publishing House.
Similarly, the magazines La Noria (Santiago de Cuba-Guantánamo) and Cauce (Pinar del Río) feature her poems, and as part of her career, she also served on the juries of various literary competitions in the region, including the “Yo Tallo mi Diamante” Floral Games and several editions of the Literary Workshops for Adults at the municipal and provincial levels.
Sobidelia Iglesias Alberny received awards such as the Nosside Caribe International Mention in 2005, and she was also an active participant in literary promotion activities through the Provincial Committee of the UNEAC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba), the Provincial Center for Books and Literature, and educational institutions in the region.
In various sociales networks, writers and artists from Guantanamo shared their condolences for the death of Sobidelia Iglesias Alberny. The institutional page of the Provincial Directorate of Culture in the territory also offered the condolences to the family, colleagues and admirers of the work of this renowned writer.
