In Guantanamo there is a commitment to primary health care with access for all people based on the political will of the government as one of strategy of development for four decades ago with the implementation and improvement of the family doctor and nurse program.
The province has 22 health areas and five hundred and 82 family doctor and nurse offices, all covered, a cornerstone of public health development aimed at the people and the gateway to the health system.
Yuleisis de la Cruz Carmenate, specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine and Head of the primary health care section in the territory, highlights that one of the essential actions of the basic work group is the promotion of healthy lifestyles, prevention of risk and other harm to health on specific groups of the population and the community in general.
In the same way, investigations and health work in the communities together with other sectors correspond, in addition to providing followup of pregnant women and children under one year of age and intervening in the physical, mental and social rehabilitation of people with chronic diseases, disabled and bedridden.
