Guantánamo – After Hurricane Oscar passed through the eastern municipalities of Guantánamo, around four hundred patients receive psychology medical attention for presenting depressive symptoms, anxiety, post-traumatic stress and sleep disorders.

To reduce or cure these conditions, the specialized personnel perform support psychotherapy, guidance and combined relaxation exercises, among other interventions, the prominent assistant professor and psychology graduate, Humberto Hodelín Carballo, says.

He adds that in the last days of work, the psychologists who come to the municipalities of San Antonio del Sur and Imías also carry out group dynamics together with the medical staff and members of the surgical brigades, the Red Cross and rapid response team, in order to contribute to the well-being of the inhabitants.

They also carry out research work and deliver products to disinfect the water, to avoid diarrheal outbreaks in the midst of the difficult situation experienced in the most affected municipalities after the passage of Hurricane Oscar.

Through specific strategies and techniques, the psychologists who come to the eastern municipalities in Guantánamo contribute to promoting healthy habits, preventing diseases and improving the quality of life of patients.
