Guantánamo. – The Guantánamo-based publishing house “El Mar y La Montaña” received the prestigious “La Puerta de Papel” (The Paper Door) Prize awarded by the Territorial Publishing System (SET) during the 34th edition of the Havana International Book Fair.

In 2026, the award was bestowed on *Secreto en lo alto de ciudad ventosa* (Secret Atop the Windy City), authored by Havana native Marlene Salazar Maciá. This book had previously won the 2023 Regino E. Boti Literature Prize and was published by El Mar y La Montaña, with editing by José Raúl Fraguela and illustrations by fellow writer Karla Gil Peña.

Targeted at children and young adults, this science fiction work delves into the world of cosmetology through the creative lens of its author.

Marlene Salazar Maciá expressed her gratitude for the distinction via her Instagram account, thanking “El Mar y La Montaña” for publishing the book and the Guantánamo Provincial Book Center for its promotional efforts.

The awards ceremony took place at the Línea y 18 Cultural Center as part of the fair’s official program, where the writer was honored in the presence of notable figures including Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso Grau, Juan Rodríguez Cabrera, President of the Cuban Book Institute, and acclaimed National Literature Prize winner Nancy Morejón.

This recognition highlights the continued contributions of regional publishers and authors to Cuba’s vibrant literary landscape.
