Guantanamo residents welcome the resumption of several services of the Cuban Railway Union during this summertime, thanks to the actions of innovators whose stability will depend on the fuel´s availability.
Pedro Durruty Martínez, representative of that entity in the province, said that among the services figure the train to the municipality of Manuel Tames -after six months of interruption- which, together with the destinations to Honduras and El Yayal, enables the connection with Jamaica,
head of that municipality located southwest of Guantanamo city.
The journey to Caimanera, Boquerón and Cuneira is also retaken, while the Guantanamo-San Luis circulates on alternate days.
The train to Holguin is expected to come into operation soon.
The Guantanamo Railway Union will continue with its usual schedule to Havana every four days and will add extra departures to support mass transportation of ministries and organizations, which will benefit the general population during this stage.
All these services are greatly accepted by passengers, taking into account the limitations of other means of transportation.
Durruty Martínez recognized the efforts of the innovators to recover some locomotives due to parts shortage, as well as the personnel guaranteeing hygiene and cafeteria services. The manager urged travelers to contribute to the care and cleaning of
rail cars, thus guaranteeing a better quality of transportation in one of the most economical services offered by the country.
