Guantanamo.- Approximately 8,500 passengers from Guantanamo City have traveled on the railbus since April 3rd, a period in which the innovative means of transportation is being implemented.

It has been achieved through the adaptations of a Diana brand bus into a railcar with a capacity for approximately 40 passengers.

Kadriulbis Aldana Calderín, head of the commercial group of the Railway Business Union in the province, highlights that of the ten scheduled trips, twelve are currently being made, based on public demands and the need to improve transportation service in communities such as Reparto Obrero and Santa María.

She also recognized the contribution of the innovators at the Vanguardia Proletaria workshop, who have guaranteed passenger safety and the consistency of the service, with more than 300 trips to date and approximately 85,500 pesos raised.

The railbus service, the only one of its kind in the country, has been in its first phase since April 3rd, and plans to extend its service to the community of Nicaragua, located at the southern outskirt area of Guantanamo City, once the installation of the turnaround and maintenance work on the railway tracks are completed.
